I'm a huge fan of the ideas in his <a href="http://astore.amazon.com/acimblog-20?_encoding=UTF8&node=85" target="_blank">books</a> and <a href="http://astore.amazon.com/acimblog-20?_encoding=UTF8&node=77" target="_blank">audio materials</a>. When the possibility surfaced (around the dinner table at the conference) of having Gary give a <a href="http://www.acimblog.com/?p=83" target="_blank">seminar in Ashland, Oregon</a>, after about 3 nanoseconds, I realized this was a great idea, so I've been <a href="http://www.acimblog.com/?p=83" target="_blank">letting folks know about this event on April 25 ... If you're anywhere near southern Oregon (or can be), I highly recommend it</a>! If you're wondering what his <a href="http://www.zazzle.com/jafo_tshirt-235236112435264654" target="_blank">JAFO</a> "quantum forgiveness" approach to life has to do with sacred geometry, a short answer might be that we can use any symbol (geometric or otherwise) when used by our universal or transpersonal self to remind us that we're all one being (and experience the peace that attends that thought system, including reinterpreting the things that seem to be so important in space/time as lessons in forgiving our impotent misperceptions (since our cosmically tiny delusions have no effect on reality.) A longer answer might be the 8-part article series (links on my <a href="http://www.geometrycode.com/events.shtml" target="_blank">Events</a> and <a href="http://www.geometrycode.com/resources.shtml" target="_blank">Resources</a> pages) which are moving closer and closer (thanks for your patience!) to being fully expanded into the <a href="http://www.geometrycode.com/gc/gc_book.shtml" target="_blank">Geometry Code book</a>. As you might have noticed, this newly energized interest in the pure non-dualistic metaphysics (due to the underlying longing for truth as long as I can remember) has become a primary activity, as reflected in many of the posts on this bulletin over the past almost-2-years since my friend Claire conveniently loaned me copies of Gary's books which rekindled the interest in <a href="http://astore.amazon.com/acimblog-20?_encoding=UTF8&node=64" target="_blank">A Course In Miracles</a> that began with studies in the mid 1980's. I (finally!) upgraded our Macs to OS10.5, and now I'm in widget-heaven! :-) Here's a simple little <a href="http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/" target="_blank">Golden Ratio calculator</a> that gives integer approximations for phi proportions scaled above and below the entered number. There's a handful of us who meet on Tuesday afternoons in Ashland, Oregon who call ourselves the Ashland Geometers (a.k.a. Hedronists, a whimisical pun) and recently Ed in our group mentioned the excellent PBS documentary on fractals that recently aired. That prompted further conversation about <a href="http://www.fractenna.com/nca_reprint.html" target="_blank">fractal antennas</a>, Jay Goldner's book which postulates that the fractal crop circle pattern at Chilbolton (right next to a radio telescope) might be a connection. Ed provided these interesting links (thanks!) on <a href="http://www.fractalarchitect.com/" target="_blank">Fractal Architecture</a>, <a href="http://www.fractalarchitect.com/photohomepages/fractalhouses.html" target="_blank">Fractal Houses</a>, <a href="http://www.jhanebarnes.com/shop-online" target="_blank">Fractal Clothes</a> and <a href="http://www.fractal-dome.de/eindex.shtml" target="_blank">Fractal Geodesics</a>. I was thinking that a fractal dome might use a hex and/or pent base dome to 'stellate' each of the hex and/or pent elements of a <a href="http://www.pacificdomes.com/" target="_blank">geodesic dome</a>. If anyone has seen anything like this, let me know... otherwise I'll add it to my backburner POV-Ray project list :-) Here's a <a href="http://www.zazzle.com/stellated_dodecahedron_fractal_print-228378569982088511" target="_blank">POV-Ray model that is somewhat along these lines using a stellated dodecahedron I did a few years ago</a>. This is the general idea of which a "geodesic fractal" (with geodesic faces replacing the pentagonal pyramids) is another example. Now, having watched these, does the illusory nature of this so-called "reality" seem even a bit more stretchy? :-) My world-traveling niece sent me this <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/picturegalleries/3109042/The-Atlas-of-the-Real-World.html" target="_blank">interesting collection of world maps</a> showing how the proportions change (depicted by warped country sizes) as various interesting statistics are applied. Speaking of maps, here's <a href="http://www.uff.br/mapprojections/mp_en.html" target="_blank">a site with a neat java applet that shows dozens of map projections</a> with lots of parameters you can toggle while moving the continents around with your mouse (who says a little rodent isn't powerful!). If you want to see our planet in a heart shape, try the "Bonne (PseudoConical)" Projection. I seem to recall from reading Peter Tompkins classic "Secrets of the Great Pyramid" that Mercator (one of the more famous map projection methods) left his grafitti in this last remaining of the Seven Wonders of the World. BTW, be patient while this applet loads; it takes a while even on a fast connection, but is worth the wait... The reason I was exploring maps is because I'm doing some research to figure out how to apply a 2D image onto the surface of a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geodesic_dome" target="_blank">geodesic dome</a>. I'm interested in figuring out a general algorithm for mapping a 2D bitmap images onto adjacent triangles of geodesic surface (for different frequency geodesics); rather than reinvent that wheel, does anyone know of an algorithm (or better yet <a href="http://www.geometrycode.com/gallery/martineau/index.shtml" target="_blank">POV-Ray</a> code) and/or a pre-processor to map a 2D image onto a portion of a geodesic surface? I'm guessing that the general approach is to use a good 2D to spherical map with minimum distortion, and then apply sphere to geodesic triangle mapping... Any help with part or all of this would be appreciated! Ideally, I'd like to be able to define the orientation, and scaling for a 2D (rectangular) bitmap (e.g. jpg) file and then apply it to a geodesic surface (specifying the frequency (using spherical subdivision of an icosahedron) and render.
